INDIANS 2, METS 1
in Port St. Lucie, Fla.
Monday, March 5

Indians at the plate: First baseman Ryan Garko singled and scored on a double by Jhonny Peralta in the second inning against Oliver Perez. Peralta drove in another run against Alay Soler in fourth with a single.

Mets at the plate: Jose Reyes' singles in the first and third innings were the Mets' first hits. Paul Lo Duca doubled in the fourth, his first hit of the exhibition season. Shawn Green and Moises Alou were hitless in three at-bats. Neither has a hit this spring. David Wright drove in the Mets' run with a foul sacrifice fly in the fifth.

Indians on the mound: Jake Westbrook and one-time Met Paul Byrd pitched two scoreless innings each, allowing one and two hits, respectively.

Mets on the mound: Oliver Perez became the first Mets starter to start twice and to pitch three innings. He struck out three and walked none. Two hits in succession produced a run in the second, but for the most part, Perez kept his pitches down. Soler allowed four hits and a run in three innings.

Grapefruit League records: Indians 3-2; Mets 2-4.

Up next: The Indians play the Yankees in Winter Haven at 1:05 p.m. ET on Tuesday with Fausto Camona starting for the Indians and Chien-Ming Wang for the Yankees. The Mets' Tuesday opponents are the Astros in Kissimmee, Fla., beginning at 1:05 p.m. Tom Glavine, back in camp after two days at home for personal reasons, will start for the Mets, while the Astros counter with Woody Williams.
