Olerud didn't like a lot of teams because he was insisting on a "winner". So any team who had a losing record that offered him he didn't like.

I've always found that a funny notion. You want a "winner"? Well, help me build one by signing with me you jerkwad.

I don't mind that so much, but the extremely rigid criteria of winner is funny. The one year I had a good record, everyone loved me, despite the fact it was clear I hadn't been and wasn't going to be a winner.

On day you'll be a winner Mach, just believer in yourself like only you can Reggie Machkenzie.

Olerud should have wanted to stay in Canada.

    One*

Not even Canadians want to stay in Canada after JP Ricciardi was there.

Take a look at my payroll. I can afford overpaying a talented 25 year old.

No offense to Oakland, it could have been any team... but I had to laugh at OOTP again.

    Date: Sunday, 1/29/2054
    Subject: Contract offer
FYI- Oakland has offered me a better contract!
    They offer a better organization.

    Regards,
    Placido Ortiz

Just because you can afford to overpay, doesn't mean you should

Totally fair. Jeter's been consistent, productive and healthy and I signed him to his prime years. Is $14 more than he was worth, probably. But by adding his popularity, I should also boost revenue over those years. So long as my payroll stays within those bounds, I'm fine. Especially since the hope is to have Leon Carter, Doris Murphy, Trevor Phillips and Christy Mathewson do heavy lifting on the cheap during those five years, as they're all either ready or close.

I was actually really nervous about the amount I offered Tanaka. Then I remembered I'm not Tampa Bay anymore.
