1969 — Pinch-hitter Rich Reese hit a grand slam to power the Minnesota Twins to a 5-2 victory over the visiting Baltimore Orioles and end Dave McNally's 15-game winning streak. His two victories at the end of 1968 had given him 17 straight wins.

I could have sworn that McNally had a big game streak in 1971. I gotta go look it up now.

Edit, yes he did have a 13 game win streak in 1971 (from May 31 through Sept 13th). The guy that hit a home run against him in the 4th inning of the game vs the Tigers (Sept 17th) was Mickey Stanley. McNally was yanked right after that early in the 4th inning.

Damn, that O's staff from about 69-71 was insane. McNally had 20+ wins in four straight seasons (68-71)

    1971: O's had FOUR 20-game winners
    1970: O's had three 20-game winners (two with 24)
    1969: O's had two 20-game winners

You were at that game? Cool! Thought I was the only guy on site that ever went to a game at Met Stadium

I used to sit in the Left Field cheap seats a lot when I was in college. They were only a buck and were always full of kids I knew.
Next question -- what was the sponsor of the home run tree at the Met?

I can't recall specifically, but TCF Banks seems to be the likely choice. Of course, back then they were more likely known as Twin City Federal.

Hmm, ok. Puckett was the last MN Twins player to lead the majors in BA in 1989.

Prior to that, who was the last MN Twin to lead the majors in BA and in what year did he do it?

How about Rod Carew -- .333 in 1978?

Close, but not quite. Re-read the question (wording is a bit tricky, done so on purpose of course).

How about Rod in 1977? Sorry about misreading the question.
Rod batted .388 and there was a lot of buzz about him hitting .400 that summer.

yep, that would be it. 1977, Rod Carew, .388

That's the closest anyone has finished to batting .400 since Ted Williams last batted .400 back in the 40's.

    You're up.

What pitcher threw a 5-inning perfect game for the Twins?

By the way, the game was called because of rain after 5 innings, so it does count as an official game.
