Twins: Jones turns down arbitration
The veteran Twins outfielder decided he wanted more than a one-year
deal and has several multiyear offers to consider, including one from
Kansas City for three years and $15 million. "It's time for us to part ways,"
he said.
After officially cutting ties with the Twins on Monday by rejecting their
offer of salary arbitration, Jacque Jones expressed little regret.
"Baseball people know I've played my heart out for that organization,"
Jones said. "I guess it's time for us to part ways."
As a free agent, Jones said he will have his pick of multiyear offers.
Taking arbitration from the Twins would have guaranteed him only one
more year of salary.
Facing a Monday night deadline, Jones said it wasn't a tough choice. He
made the expected move, declining the Twins' offer and will remain a
free agent.
