Question Twins 2012 -- What do they need to pick up?

What should Bill Smith concentrate on picking up this off season?

Pitching and more pitching. Then after that a SS. Just my view. I think Cuddyer will come back but do see Kubel leaving.

Confidence, a good medical and training staff, and lots of duct tape for Joe Mauer.

The Twins need to trade anyone of any value on the major league club. Our farm system needs to be rebuilt. Mauer would net us the most top young players in return. The Capps deal still in my mind was a poor trade. We lost a good young catcher and we could have used him every day behind the plate. Mauer could have played 1st base. Two area's we needed help with would have been solved.

If the team does not trade anyone we need starting pitching and more starting pitching.

Mauer has next to no trade value.

They declined the option on Nathan, he gets a $2 M buy out. Smith says there is interest in re-signing him.

Re: Twins 2012 -- What do they need to pick up?

Twins manager Ron Gardenhire told Phil Mackey of 1500ESPN.com that he wants Justin Morneau to decide soon whether he'll play first base or DH next season.
"And that's one of the things that Terry (Ryan) and I talked about, making sure before we get too deep into this (offseason), what we're going to do with Morneau, where he's going to play, if it's DH or first base," said Gardenhire. "Morneau has to eventually tell us what's right for him, or I'll make the decision for him and we'll go from there." Morneau, 30, is currently working his way back from concussion symptoms as well as surgeries on his left wrist, right foot and left knee. The Twins aren't counting on him, but it would certainly seem as though a move to the DH spot would be best for the team and Morneau's long-term health.
Looks like they will need a 1B.

I think the Twins will be fine with Revere in left. Lets see if Benson and Parmalee can handle RF & 1B.

Twins signed Jason Marquis to a one year deal worth $3 million. Not a bad deal for the Twins considering top relievers are making more than he will but I don't like it for the Twins. Marquis should get lit up in the AL Central.
