Twins placed C Joe Mauer on the 15-day disabled list with bilateral leg weakness
Mauer has been out for the past two games, but the news still comes as a major surprise. Bilateral leg weakness is a condition often related to nerve or spinal cord issues and can be quite serious when at its worst. Mauer will visit a specialist in Baltimore this weekend. The light-hitting Drew Butera is likely to draw most of the starts behind the plate in his absence.

That's a first! Never heard of this condition before. Looks like he could miss some significant time here which is terrible news for the Twins as they are off to a bad start. The Twins need to get themselves a good catcher because Mauer needs to be DHing.

Mauer won't be dh this season. I mean what would the Twins do with Kubel and Thome. But I do see him in 2012 as possibly the full time DH. Being a catcher is not easy on your legs. Might have helped if Joe had the surgery like a month to two months earlier. He was never able to get his legs back into catcher shape. Now the Twins are paying for it.

He has the flu, too. He'll probably be fine in a week or so, but the Twins couldn't have only 1 catcher on their major league roster.
Hopefully, his condition will be resolved soon.

How about Nathan losing the closer role? I think Joe should have pitched some games in AAA to get himself more ready for the big league hitters. To me Joe is not himself or close to it. If I was in charge I would send him to AAA for the rest of the month to pitch some innings and see if things can get better. Capps right now should be able to hold down the job. If the Twins don't score more than three runs a game there in trouble.

Nathan asked Gardy to take him out of the closer's role. I think he can get his arm back in shape by throwing BP and a few innings a week.
