    Twins Nishioka Breaks A Leg

Tsuyoshi Nishioka has been diagnosed with a fractured fibula.
The Japanese infielder suffered the unfortunate injury on Thursday when Yankees outfielder Nick Swisher upended him on a takeout slide that successfully broke up an attempted double play. Nishioka was surely warned about the physicality of major league takeout slides this spring but could do nothing to avoid Swisher in what looked to be a clean play. The Twins, now desperately short on middle infielders, will place Nishioka on the disabled list for at least a month.
It was definitely a clean play by Swisher. Touch break for the Twins, pun intended. A return of Luis Castillo is always a possibility. Can't really think of anymore available second basemen.

Clean play? Are you kidding? Swisher was out of the base path, then he looked like he swung his leg out. Swishers foot was almost exactly on Nishi knee. Swisher has always been a dirty player. If something like this happened to a yankee player the first Twins player would be drilled with a fastball. Gardy is a pussy! He did nothing to fire up the guys after this happened. He is scared of the Yankees and he has his players scared as well.

Big loss for the Twins. Time to hit the FA market. Could Luis Castillo be back as a Twin? Mets have to pay him 6 million this season. Might not cost the Twins anything..

Watch the replay. Swisher feet were nowhere near the bag. They were towards 3rd base!

Swisher's feet don't have to be by the bag. As long as a player can touch the base, he can go after the fielder and Swisher touched the bag with his hands. Swisher even apologized after the game and Nishi even said it was a clean play because it was.

Clean play, tough break. But Luis Castillo as potential replacement? C'mon man, he's already been cut by the Mets and Phillies without playing a game for either! He's done!

Castillo was cut by the Mets because Collins didn't like him. It would only be a one month rental from the looks of it and would cost next to nothing so why not? I guess Cristian Guzman is available too

Luke Hughes will likely get called up. He was one of the last cuts in spring training.
Lets see what he can do.

Luis Castillo probably couldn't even make the cut for a beer league softball team.

Barry Larkin said the play was clean and that it probably would have been avoided if Nishioka was more used to being a 2B since he took the SS approach to that double play. (He was a SS overseas). I certainly don't see it as a dirty play, and Swisher was legitimately upset that it resulted in a significant injury. We shouldn't confuse the hard working, hustle every play players for the dirty players.

Reports are saying that Nishi won't need surgery, or even a hard cast. Maybe the break isn't as bad as initially anticipated.

Good, you never want to see a player go down like that. Hopefully it heals quickly for him.
