    Pulled during a no-hitter with a 4 run cushion?

The S3F/BS jinx has reached a new plateau. Pitcher gets pulled immediately after posting the thread and the reliever promptly blows it.

This is the dumbest shit I've ever read. You cannot take a guy out of a no-hitter just because someone invented a pitch count. Ridic.

Re: No Hitter alert: Kevin Slowey/Jon Rauch

That's just how it is in today's game. Pitch counts, inning limits, everyone is overly cautious. Sometimes it makes sense, sometimes we hate it. The twins are in the playoff hunt, whereas Edwin Jackson was pitching for a team that had nothing else to look forward to. Slowey could have been left out there, but there was some concerns about fatigue in his arm. Padre fans argue that Latos was left in too long despite throwing 104 pitches or something. The same could have happened to Slowey, he could have faltered in the 8th.

It would be great to see guys logging 120 pitches, complete games, etc. more often but it's no longer the case. Perhaps with the decline of monster offensive numbers and rise of awesome pitching, we'll gravitate more towards that. But are pitchers conditioned for it? Seems like pitch counts and inning limits start in the minors too.

I remember Kevin Appier getting pulled after a Opening Day no hit bid with the Royals.

I agree he shouldn't have been pulled but do see the reasoning behind it. I tend to not go against Gardenhire during the regular season.

Re: No Hitter alert: Kevin Slowey/Jon Rauch

Slowey also skipped his last start because of tendinitis in his elbow, so to make sure he didn't cause any damage they had him on a pitch count. Either way, Twins win, which I'm fine with. I'm sure Slowey isn't happy about it, but I'd rather take a win and protect his arm than have him potentially screwing up his mechanics just to attempt a no hitter.

It's the mark of an organization looking at the big picture here. Yes, it sucks for Slowey, but when you have elbow tendinitis you don't want to mess with things in your first start back. The long term effects could have been disastrous here. I'm sure the Twins management knows what they're doing.

Ah, give me something clever to say here.

Slowey was actually appreciative that he was pulled.

I didn't know about the tendinitis.

Wise decision only because of that.

And when he was pulled, he was already over 100 pitches.
