MLB Twins' 1st yr player Draft Picks

    Their pick at #22:
The Pick: Kyle Gibson, RHP, Missouri
The buzz: Gibson has a stress fracture in his wrist and has seen his draft stock fall. A bit of a risk but if he is medically clear it could be a great pick at No. 22.

    Their pick at #46:
The Pick: Matt Bayshore, LHP, Indiana
The buzz: Bayshore is the third Indiana player taken in the draft. No surprise to see him go this late after a slow start, despite a strong finish to the season.

Here are the Twins' first 4 picks: Draft: 2009 DraftTracker | MLB.com: Events
22Gibson, KyleU Missouri ColumbiaRHPR/R6'06"2101987-10-23JRVideoComments: Gibson certainly looked the part of a top college starter in the early part of the season. He has three pitches he can throw for strikes in any count and he shows a lot of poise and a competitive streak on the mound. Scouts love his size at 6-foot-6, though some might worry he's a little too thin. Most look at his combination of stuff, command and mound presence and see a sure-fire first-round pick.

A virus forced him out of action for a month and down on many Draft boards. After shaking off the rust, he began to show a little bit more of the form scouts saw on the Cape. A starter throughout college, who can maintain velocity deep into games when he's healthy, many think Tootle's future role will be as a short reliever. He's slipped out of the first-round picture, it seems, but his power stuff should have him off the board not too much later than that.

The Twins took a local guy, Derek McCallum (U of M), in the 4th round. He is a 2B and the first non-pitcher the Twins have picked.

The sp we took in rd 1 if he was not injured would have been a top 3 pick in the draft. They were talking about it on mlb network during the draft. They even talked to him as well. When he is back healthy in about a month keep an eye on him. Looks like he will be quite good.

By the way, the Twins drafted Steve Liddle in the 15th round -- the nephew of the bench coach. He is an outfielder from Vanderbilt.
