Twins See you later Alexi Casilla

With Punto being activated from the DL, it was going to be either Casilla or Tolbert sent back down to AAA Rochester. Tolbert has been doing the things that Casilla hasn't, which is why Casilla is being sent down.

Casilla doesn't understand why he's being sent down, but that just doesn't make sense. He hasn't been playing the small ball the Twins need him to, and he's been making dumb mistakes. He was tearing the cover off the ball down in AAA before he was called up, so maybe he just needs some more time down there again to clear his head and do what it takes to be productive at the big league level.

    Twins send Casilla down

Its hard to send a kid like him out again, but someone has to go back to Rochester. As you said, Tolbert has been playing well, although it would be nice for him to get a hit now and then. Casilla seems to play with his eyes closed on occasion, and wants to make triple plays everytime the ball is hit to him. Sometimes, playing for one out is better than trying to make too tough a play on the lead runner. I hope the coaches in Rochester can get this concept through to him.
Casilla is likely going to be the 2B for the forseeable future and Tolbert will be a decent utility player.

He needs to re-adjust to big league pitching, it's obvious pitchers figured him out after he had a solid season. And he's letting his hitting woes get to his head, causing him to make mental errors on the routine stuff. I think we see it with young guys all the time, some just adjust sooner/better than others.

I think he came into this season expecting to have the same results as last year, without much effort. When he started to struggle, as you said KOZ, it went right to his head and he took those bad at bats to the field with him, and then took his bad fielding mistakes to the plate.

A good clearing of the mind will do him some good.

I would have sent BOTH down! Neither is hitting the ball. Tolbert is doing things the twins like in the field and he does not make the dumb mistake.

Who comes up if both are sent down? Tolbert is at least playing good defense and is doing a pretty good job bunting.
