Twins Mauer still suffering back pain

Definitely not the news Twins fans wanted to hear. Especially with Redmond struggling at the plate like he his. Hopefully after this whatever-gram, they figure out what the deal is.

Wilson Ramos and Jose Morales may be in the bigs before anyone expected them to be. A couple of years ago, this might not have been as big a deal as it is now. The Twins were really deep at catcher and have not really brought a lot of them into camp recently.

Why not sign Pudge Rodriguez for a season?

Most teams could be asking that same question. Apparently, when Pudge isn't one of the best in the game at catcher, he's just a huge asshole that no one wants around.

Pudge can still make the plays and hit. His attitude is well known in the Twins' organization and is a definite drawback.
This said, the Twins could do a lot worse than him as a "plan b" for this season.

Twins put up with Pierzynski's attitude so I think they can deal with Pudge's for a season.

Uh, yes they did and for three seasons. Only reason he was traded was because they drafted Mauer and had an offer they couldn't refuse. If they can handle Pierzynski's awful attitude for 3 seasons, they can handle Pudge for one.

They don't have David Ortiz to tape him up and put him in a locker like he allegedly did with AJ.

Inflamation can sometimes cause pretty severe pain. I hope medication can reduce it in this case.

I don't see what the panic with Redmond is, he's a very good backup who can play long stretches and is a better hitter than most AL catchers in his own right stop worrying you'll be fine

I agree about Redmond. He is a very good insurance policy to have in camp. He may not be hitting now, but I'm not concerned about it. He'll be fine. He can play 3-5 games a week without losing much for the Twins, if necessary.
