    Rumor Cuddy for Atkins?

The Rocky Mountain News reported earlier this week that the Twins and the Rockies had preliminary trade discussions regarding Rockies third baseman Garrett Atkins. Colorado appeared to be interested in Minnesota's young pitching, but on Thursday the paper brought up another name to keep an eye on in these talks -- Twins outfielder Michael Cuddyer. In addition to wanting to add a starting pitcher this offseason, the Rockies are also looking to add a right-handed, run-producing hitter in a multiple-player package. The Twins currently possess a surplus of outfielders, and there is a chance that they could move one of them this offseason. It also seems to make sense that, with the Rockies considering trades for Matt Holliday, they might be looking for another right-handed outfielder. But the report indicates that the talks between the two teams still appear to be in the very early stages.
    Interesting...

Young, Gomez, Kubel, Span, and Cuddyer.

Cuddy was hurt most of the year, and it was Young's first year with the team. And Gomez didn't suck. Yes he could have been better, but I was happy with his performance, but I will expect more next year.

Sorry, .258/.296/.360 sucks outside of a mid-1910s context.

I would love to see Atkins play for the Twins. There would be no more issues at 3rd base. Atkins brings a good bat and power that we have long missed at 3rd base. Gman was the last player who did anything for us there..

I would have no problem with this move. The Twins have several other guys -- Benson, Revere and Priddie -- who are almost ready to go, with Priddie being the closest. This is, along with young pitching, the Twins best area in their minors.

Another thing to is that Atkins has been playing 1B since Helton was hurt, and that would be a bonus for when Gardy would want to give Morneau a day off.

Buscher plays a bit at 1st as well, so Gardy will have a couple of options again.

    Re: Cuddy for Atkins?

Not to mention that the Twins have a need for a right-handed bat at 3B, especially one that has a bit of pop. Atkins fills that bill nicely, and for less money than other options (Beltre) would.

    Re: Cuddy for Atkins?

I like Atkins but the Twins need to be concerned with his numbers away from Coors. Twins are also looking into Casey Blake who is used to the AL Central.

    Re: Cuddy for Atkins?

I, frankly, prefer Blake to Atkins, although Atkins is younger. Blake is a better fielder and the Twins have a bunch of "contact" pitchers that get ground balls frequently.

    Re: Cuddy for Atkins?

Blake is old.. Rather go with a younger guy in my opinion. As long as we make moves to make the club better I am all for it. If we do nothing someone needs to remove Polad from owning the team.
