Pohlad is worth roughly 3 Billion (yeah, i know right!). His team's payroll is a substantial amount less than that. Sign Morneau, Mauer, and Santana to long term deals....it'll be worth it in the end.

No real loss here, although Tyner does provide some spark to a line up and plays well in the field.
Quite frankly, I am a bit disappointed by this move, however. He was becoming a bit of a "fan-favorite".

    Re: Twins Off-Season

Twins agreed to terms with shortstop Adam Everett, who had been with the Astros, on a one-year contract.
The Twins never seemed sold on the idea of Nick Punto as a shortstop, though it's certainly a lot less ludicrous than playing him regularly at third base. Everett will prove to be an upgrade, but if it means Punto is going to log a lot of time at second or third, it wouldn't put any additional wins on the board for the Twins. As things stand now, they'd likely go with Punto at second and Brendan Harris at third. However, Alexi Casilla remains an internal option and it's possible they'll sign a third baseman and go with Harris at second.
Good defensive upgrade at SS which will help the pitching out.

The Twins agreed to a one year deal with SS Adam Everett. He could be a good pickup depending on how good his leg his. He definately has some competition for getting a starting spot, vying against Harris, Casilla, and Punto.

This move means that Harris will likely play 2B next season and Casilla will go back to Rochester for some more "seasoning".
Frankly, this move is not a bad one. Everett could be a very good #2 hitter, and whomever ends up playing CF could be the lead-off guy.

Everett;s a good #9 hitter providing speed at the bottom of the lineup. He doesn't hit well enough to hit #2.

    Re: Twins Off-Season

The Star Tribune reports that the Twins and Mike Lamb have come to terms on a two-year deal with a club option for 2010.
One day after landing the game's best defensive shortstop, they pair him with one of the weakest defensive options to form up the left side of their infield. Lamb will provide them with above average offense from third base, but signing a 32-year-old defensive liability to a mulityear deal isn't going to further their rebuilding effort.
Twins should have gone after Feliz is the Twins really cared about defense. Feliz has more power and is a GG calibur guy at third. I say bad move here unless they go out and get an actual third baseman.

This move really doesn't make much sense, unless they are planning to let Lamb DH quite a bit. I agree about Feliz (and Everett hitting #9 for that matter).

While we are not after the big name players, we are at least filling the gaps in the lineup.

Santana must be traded and Ellsbury is the CF we MUST get!

    Re: Twins Off-Season

Twins signed RHP Zach Day and LHP Randy Keisler to minor league contracts and invited them to spring training.
If his stuff comes all the way back, Day, who had rotator cuff surgery in June 2006, could do a decent Carlos Silva impression for the Twins. Still, it doesn’t look like it’s going to happen for him. Keisler is an ever weaker bet, but he is a well-rounded pitcher. He’s just as much of a liability in the pen as he is in the rotation.
Day is a good risk to take especially if they do indeed trade Santana which I hope they do not.

Agreed. Zach Day was very well thought of a few years back. He has had some arm issues, but hopefully these are behind him.
If these guys have anything left, it will be seen in spring training. If not, they haven't cost very much.

    Twins Re: Twins Off-Season

Kubel avoided arbitration by signing a one year, 1.3 mill deal. He finished the year strong batting .323 in the last 10 games, but since the Twins acquired Young, he will probably split time between LF and DH.

Morneau, Cuddyer, Guerrer, and Rincon are the only guys (I think) who filed for arbitration.

    YES!!!!

Morneau agreed to a one year, 7.4 mill deal avoiding arbitration today.

This is a player the Twins need to lock up for a while.

good move. I agree that the Twins need to lock this kid up. He's a nice guy on top of everything else.

Apparently the Twins are no where near what Morneau is asking since they have been talking extension for a while now.
