    Re: Twins Off-Season

Twins exercised RHP Joe Nathan's $6 million option for 2008.
The option was a no-brainer, but it doesn't necessarily guarantee that he'll be back with the Twins, as there's a slight chance he could be traded. First, the club will discuss an extension with the soon-to-be 33-year-old closer.
It's so weird to see a man of his talent being paid a normal $6 million. They think he will be traded but I say no way.

Also, Geoff Jenkins' option will not be picked up by the Brewers. Twins should look into this possible DH.

Jenkins would be a great addition to the Twins team. I think he could handle the DH spot pretty easily, and he could play a bit in the outfield in an emergency (only in an emergency, however).
As to Nathan, he is a very good closer and I hope to see him stay with the team for a while. Neshek is not quite ready for that responsibility just yet, IMO.

Hunter filed for free agency. Do NOT expect him back in MN next year.

I'm genuinely sorry to see this. He has been the face of the franchise for a decade and should be in center field there.
Is this just another in a long line of mis-steps by the Twins' ownership?

Thanks for posting that memory, Lynch. He looks great in the uniform, doesn't he? He just won't look right in another team's colors.

Jenkins is still a good outfielder. He still has a better than average arm. DHing him is ok occassionally, but he can still play good defense. He just is not a CFer.

    Twins Re: Twins Off-Season

ok, so check this craziness out. Bill Smith has said, as reported to the AP, that his priorities are to re-sign Hunter and Silva. That means bye-bye to Johan for sure. And there is a rumor flying around that the Twins may trade Santana to the Mets for one Jose Reyes. What do you guys think about that if he can pull the trigger on both of these key things?

I think I would have to agree with reefer on this one. That robbery in my eyes for the Twins. Reyes is a star in the making, but he is not in Santana's league yet.

    Twins Re: Twins Off-Season

If the Twins do re-sign Hunter and Silva, would you guys be upset at seeing Santana go to the Mets for Reyes and a pitching prospect? I know Santana is the best pitcher is baseball today, but Bill Smith has said that his priorities are to keep Hunter and Silva.

    OR

Resign Santana and Silva, and pick up FA Erstad. The White Sox are not picking up his option. He would be a decent OF, and a good backup at 1B to give Morneau a break.

    Re: Twins Off-Season

I would like to see Reyes here with a good pitching spec. I will still look at Rowand. Erstad is to damn injury prone for my liking. Smith needs to step up and make some moves now to get things going on the right track.
