Brewers: The Kid is back

MARYVALE, Ariz. - Wisps of gray are invading his signature mustache and lurking beneath his cap.
The youngest of his four children, barely out of diapers when he collected his 3,000th hit back in 1992, graduates from high school in a few months.
And he finds himself battling more achy joints and sore backs with longer hot-tub soaks and greater amounts of Ben Gay.
Yes, having turned the big five-oh last September, "The Kid" is getting old. And he knows it.

"But," Robin Yount says with a smile, "I still feel like that stupid 18- year-old between the ears."
He isn't, of course. Since the day he broke into the big leagues as a teen- ager in 1974, Yount did more than any other player to have worn a Milwaukee Brewers uniform. And he'll be drawing on that experience as the Brewers' new bench coach, imparting the knowledge he amassed during a 20-year Hall of Fame playing career spent entirely with Milwaukee.
"Robin brings Hall of Fame credentials to the ballpark every time he walks through the door," says manager Ned Yost, who played with Yount on the Brewers' 1982 American League championship team, which lost to the St. Louis Cardinals in the World Series.
"If you're a player in this game and you have a Hall of Famer working with you, with as much passion for the game as Robin has, if you don't feel anything, something's wrong with you." •
How good is this? Yount is the greatest player ever to wear a Brewers uniform and now he returns to coach this young nucleus of up and comers. Brew Crew fans, how exciting is this?
