    Brewers Bullpen impressive!

BREWERS: Yost says bullpen burnout a concern

    Vic Feuerherd Wisconsin State Journal

MILWAUKEE - It's a tribute to the Milwaukee Brewers' starting pitchers that manager Ned Yost has had to use his bullpen just 223 times this season, the lowest amount of relief appearances by a National League team.

The bullpen has done an impressive job, too, amassing a 3.77 ERA (third-best in the NL) and allowing just 36 of 128 inherited runners to score (28 percent).

But buried beneath the glitter of those statistics is a disturbing trend, one Yost is concerned about. Four relievers - Ricky Bottalico, Matt Wise, Julio Santana and closer Derrick Turnbow - account for a staggering 63 percent of those appearances.

Bottalico already is showing signs of the strain, though Yost characterized his recent struggles as a "rut. He's not worn out." Bottalico has been rapped around in seven appearances this month to the tune of a 7.71 ERA.

"We'll end up killing Wise and Santana," Yost said, pointing out that rookie left-hander Dana Eveland - called up from Class AA Huntsville Friday - may make the set-up threesome a quartet.

Wise has made seven appearances this month covering 8 innings; Santana is at eight appearances and 5 innings. That doesn't count the number of times they get up to throw in the bullpen without coming in.

Yost hinted Sunday another roster move may be in the offing.

This team has so much young talent. I am really starting to get worried about contending against them in my favorite team's division.

hopefully Yost can figure out a way to get some of these young hurlers some rest. it would really suck to tire them out at such a young career so far.

This team is going to be amazing in the next few years. So many talents, and Sheet is locked for couple year, to lead this team.
    LOVE THEE NOTRE DAME!
