Thumbs Down Hoffman blows his 5th

His era is 12 after giving up 3 ER to the reds in the loss. Trevor... it's just not your year, is it?

Could he have really lost it this fast? I mean, granted we know he is over 40 but he was actually BETTER in the second half than the first half... higher K/9, much lower BAA, etc. This year his control is shot and he is getting the ball smacked everywhere but to a defensive glove. Maybe he is done, but it would be a shame if he couldn't finish the season out with some dignity (for his 2010 effort that is) and return to a 4 or 4.25 ERA with a respectable save conversion %.

How much rope does he have left?

It appears the differential between his fastball and change-up has decreased to the point where hitters aren't fooled by either pitch. He's lived with a great change-up for ever and it is just as good as always, but his fastball has lost some velocity.
I'm not sure how long the Brewers can go with him as their closer if they want to compete this season. We'll see if his fastball comes back at all.

Trevor is really not a man that wants to give up. None of the brewers are but they have a bad way of showing it. It really sucks being a fan and seeing this 9 game slump, deep down the fans want to see Macha get fired, me personally would rather see Melvin fired. Just a question of when that will happen. Yost got fired and the Brewers got on fire, so who knows maybe that's what we need.
