MLB.com: Gonzo playing defensively well

MIAMI -- It didn't take Alex Gonzalez long to make the "web gem" highlight reel.

The Marlins' flashy shortstop made two sensational plays in Wednesday's 2-1 loss to the Braves.

The athletic and instinctive Gonzalez, who has Gold Glove talent, made a sliding stop on a sharply struck grounder to rob the speedy Rafael Furcal of an RBI single in the seventh. In the eighth inning, his head's-up play resulted in Chipper Jones being thrown out trying to go to third on a chopper in the hole by Julio Franco.

"Don't ask me how he does it," said infield coach Perry Hill. "He just does it."
