MLB.com: Pierre ends his inning streak at 1700 straight innings

MIAMI -- Ironman Juan Pierre's impressive consecutive innings streak is over.

Seeking to preserve Pierre, Marlins manager Jack McKeon removed the speedy center fielder from Saturday's lineup.

Pierre, the only player in the Majors to participate in every inning of the 2004 season, also was in action for every pitch of every game through the first four games of 2005.

But Saturday, Juan Encarnacion was penciled in as the starting center fielder, ending Pierre's streak at 1,700 consecutive innings.
