    Giancarlo contract watch

There are reports that negotiations to lock up Stanton have reached a possible 10-year $300 M deal, which would break the record set by Miguel Cabrera.

He was hitting .288 with 37 homers and 105 RBIs when his season was cut short by a ghastly blow to his face on September 11th. The Marlins $ 46,440,400 opening day payroll was next to last in the majors.

Thank God! Now all the homerific Red Sox fans and "journalists" can STFU about trading for Stanton. You're not getting him assholes!

I'm sensing that you really don't care much for the Red Sox Nation, Prov.

You really think Stanton is going to finish that contract as a Marlin if Loria sticks around?

I don't think outfield is Boston's concern anyways.

And Stanton should buy us all lunch if he signs a 13 year/300 mill contract

The offer is said to be up to 325 mil. for 12 years according to MLB.

Slyder has a good point about actually seeing that deal through to the end, Loria is a serial salary dumper.

I see the amount and years keep increasing, it was the 10-$300 when I woke up then by lunch it was 12-$320 and by dinner the 13-$325......can I get 15-$365.....going once, going twice.........

Probably not, but I meant more about the immediate future.

All summer after the trade deadline it was "Sawx have to get Giancarlo Stanton for x, y, z, crap." Non-stop. Anything to do with 2015...we'll just get Stanton. Gotta get Stanton. Won't even have to give up our top specs.

He probably doesn't play the entire contract in Miami but I think I'd rather see Stanton traded elsewhere for a return than to just see them let him walk.

If this was the NBA, the Marlins would dump him three years into the deal in exchange for the expiring contracts of Carl Crawford and Andre Ethier.

    Re: Giancarlo contract watch

Done deal now, so it's all about the details.....no trade clause and an opt out for Stanton after 6 years. I was juuuuuuuuust about to think that the real Loria had been snatched by the Pod People until he tried to cover his last salary purge be saying it was done so he could make this deal with Stanton. What a load of bull, he was trying to buy a WS just like the 2 Marlin's owners before him and it didn't work for him. The ONLY reason he did this deal was to try and weasel his way back into the good graces of Miami fans. You know you are in trouble when fans send a petition to POTUS crying for a new owner. Desperate circumstances call for desperate measures. When the time comes Loria will get out of this deal if he wants, an employer can always make life miserable enough for an employee to BEG to be let out of a contract. Loria being the merciful "Dark Lord" that he is, will oblige. I just hope this doesn't bring bad lick to Stanton.

I don't know diddly squat about this guy other than looking at his stats, and his stats do NOT scream "WE MUST give this guy $25M a year for 13 years", at least not to me.

WTF is so special about him? Good stats, not great, not super-star caliber by any measure I would consider.

    *shrug*
