Marlins Marlins to be big offseason buyers?

The Marlins are moving into a brand new retractable ballpark in 2012 and they'll look to make a big splash on the open market this winter, writes Joe Frisaro of MLB.com. Cubs third baseman Aramis Ramirez is one of the top free agents who is clearly on the Marlins' radar.

Internally, the club views him as a good fit for a lineup as they look to add an established veteran to a youthful squad. The addition of Ramirez would also give rookie Matt Dominguez more time to develop.

The Fish may also wind up making inquiries on top free agents Albert Pujols, Prince Fielder, and Jose Reyes. Sources say that the Marlins will also explore signing C.J. Wilson and the left-hander is already being talked about.
Ramirez really turned things around this year as he's been healthy and cut down on the strikeouts. He is the best third baseman out there this offseason and will get a good payday. 3B was a gaping hole for the Marlins all season so it does make sense to go out and try to grab ARam if the Marlins are to finally open the check book. Pujols and Fielder would be nice but the Marlins already have a good 1B in Gaby Sanchez. Sanchez isn't as good as those two but 1B just isn't a need for the Marlins. It should be an interesting offseason if the Marlins are buyers but getting Hanley and Josh Johnson back healthy next year is the most important thing for the Marlins.

they could be. Teams moving into a new stadium do it all the time.

just look for the fire sale in 2013 or 2014

Sounds like the story of every Angels offseason.
