Marlins acquired OF Mike Cameron and cash considerations from the Red Sox for a player to be named later or cash considerations.
Cameron was designated for assignment by the Red Sox last week. Money aside, it's a solid addition for the Marlins, who have a lousy .233/.295/.365 batting line and .660 OPS out of center field this season. Of course, Cameron also carries the reputation as a strong defender. The 38-year-old was hitting just .149/.212/. 266 with three homers and nine RBI over 105 plate appearances with the Red Sox this season.
Marlins are getting Cameron for less than $200k so they aren't taking on hardly any salary. I didn't realize just how bad Marlin CFers were doing so badly, even with Coghlan's demotion. DeWayne Wise seems to have lost his shot.
