Marlins Vazquez, Marlins Agree On Deal

The Marlins and Javier Vazquez have agreed on one-year contract pending a physical, a source told FoxSports.com's Jon Paul Morosi.
The 34-year-old Vazquez posted an ugly 5.32 ERA and 1.40 WHIP over 31 appearances -- 26 starts -- for the Yankees this past season, but he was the recipient of NL Cy Young Award votes just a year ago with a 2.87 ERA and 1.03 WHIP over 219-plus innings for the Braves. Terms of the contract haven't been released, but it appears as though Florida has secured a huge bounce back candidate at a very reasonable price. Vazquez was offered arbitration by the Yankees, so New York will receive a sandwich pick once the deal becomes official.
I like this move for the Marlins! One year isn't going to hurt anything and Vazquez wants to be there. He is returning to the NL East where he is just a year removed from a top 3 finish in the CY voting. He is also going from a big market and hitter's park to a smaller market and pitcher friendly park. Vazquez should be a nice #3 starter for the Marlins but you still have to worry a little about his dip in velocity last year. I still like to move and the Marlins with all that young talent juts got better.

Hopefully he reverts back to 2009 form, or close to it. Then we can always say he's no Dustin Moseley, or Chad Gaudin.

he'll be fine in the nl again, and especially that ball park, and especially when the games become meaningless by june. i like the sandwich pick for us too.

Good deal for the Marlins: if they contend, he'd probably be a big part of why they're contending, and if they fall out of it like I expect them to (lolInfante) then they can probably deal Javy for something at the deadline, assuming he'd like to be a part of a pennant race.

Vazquez has a full no-trade so dealing him would be difficult. He signed there because he wanted to be closer to Puerto Rico.

I understand that, but if in late July a team in contention expresses very strong interest him and he wants to try and win, he'd probably at least consider going there.

Maybe but it would most likely have to be an East Coast team.

And, for poor Javy's sake, not from the AL East. He doesn't do very well over there.
