Marlins The Buck Stops in South Beach?

Ken Rosenthal of FOXSports.com reports that the Marlins are nearing a three-year deal with free agent catcher John Buck.
That was quick. Buck slugged 20 home runs in 2010 for the Blue Jays and was expected to spend a large portion of the winter searching for a lucrative multi-year contract. But the Marlins, frustrated by years of poor offensive production from behind the plate, decided to move fast. No word yet on the financials of the deal. It should be worth close to $18 million.
The Uggla deal now makes a little more sense. They freed up money quickly so they could sign Buck. Pierzynski had been rumored to be on the Marlins watch list but it seems they liked Buck after a career year. Buck will definitely provide some power for the Marlins helping offset the loss of Uggla. Three years seems like a year too long but they did fill a need. Carl Pavano is rumored to be next on their list.

If anyone had a fluke year, it's John Buck. Good luck, Florida.

Good signing for the Marlins. This will make up for some of the power lost from Uggla going to the Braves.

I really think the Marlins were really stuck in having to make a big move after losing Uggla. That is why they overpaid for him. I guess they are hoping he can provide those numbers he posted in 2010.
