What the **** are the Marlins thinking? Either trade this guy or pay him what he deserves. He is at least a $12 million a year player. If I the GM, I would trade Uggla. He isn't good defensively and would bring in some nice pieces to go along with that talented group of young players they have now. Trade Uggla and move Coghlan to second base. They would have no shortage of teams interested in Uggla's services.Jon Heyman of SI.com reports that the Marlins are offering Dan Uggla a four-year contract extension, but that the second baseman seeks a five-year deal.
Not far off from what Joe Capozzi of the Palm Beach Post reported last week. Heyman writes that Uggla would earn $8 million in the first year of the proposed contract, only a slight raise from the $7.8 million salary he earned in 2010. Unless the contract is heavily-backloaded, the Marlins will have to do better than that.
