The Marlins asked Edwin Rodriguez to manage the team in 2011 and he accepted the offer, according to Juan C. Rodriguez of the South Florida Sun-Sentinel. Owner Jeffrey Loria offered Rodriguez the job today and an official announcement will likely come tomorrow.

As soon as Bo Porter, another candidate for the job, accepted a job with the Nationals, it became apparent that Rodriguez was the leading candidate for the Marlins' opening. Earlier this afternoon, Clark Spencer of the Miami Herald reported that the team was expected to retain Rodriguez.

Rodriguez, a rookie manager in 2010, led the Marlins to a 46-46 record this year. He is the first Puerto Rican-born manager in big league history.
As long as Rodriguez is a yes man to Loria and Hanley Ramirez, he should keep his job beyond this year. If he acts like a manager should act, then he will probably be axed. Girardi and Fredi did great jobs with what they had and both saw the door because they didn't not share the same philosophy as Loria. Marlins have a shit load of talent and underperformed in '10 in my opinion. With a few good moves, they should be well above .500.
