Marlins Jorge Cantu: he can too!

MIAMI (AP) — Jorge Cantu (FSY) of the Florida Marlins homered Wednesday night, making him the first player in major league history to have at least one hit and one RBI in each of his team's first nine games.

The record dates to 1920, when RBIs became an official statistic.
His streak is at 13 games dating back to last season. The record is 17.

Tampa and Cincinnati are excited that they gave up on him so quickly

Sucks we just got rid of him so easily. But mad props to the guy, he is really hitting this year now that the wrist is all better. Keep it up Jorge!

I can’t speak for the Reds but the Rays gave him plenty of time…..he had a fabulous year for the Rays in 2005, but tanked in 2006 and couldn't even make the starting roster in 2007, as much as I like him he just wasn't thriving on a consistent basis here. Considering they got to WS in 2008 on the backs of Longo, Pena and Aki I think the Rays are very happy with the decision and since Jorge has excelled for the Marlins it seemed to be better for him, too.

If you had kept Cantu, he'd make for a great DH and you never would have signed the travesty that is Pat Burrell.

DH’s are usually there when they are ready to be put out to pasture, isn’t Jorge a little young? We’ve had some crappy contracts in our day like many other teams but at least we didn’t pay $126 million for a pitcher to win 31 games in 3 seasons.

Despite the hit+RBI streak coming to an end, the 18-game hitting streak lives on.
