Blister trouble lands Beckett on the DL again

Blister lands Beckett on 15-day DL
    By Joe Frisaro / MLB.com

ANAHEIM -- As expected, the Marlins placed Josh Beckett on the 15-day disabled list Friday due to a blister to his right middle finger.
Replacing Beckett on the roster is right-hander Nate Bump, who was recalled from Triple-A Albuquerque.

Beckett's latest blister bout occurred on Tuesday at Wrigley Field in Chicago. In the sixth inning against the Cubs, Beckett developed a blister on a fastball that got away during a sequence to Jeromy Burnitz. Beckett attempted one more pitch before exiting.

The 25-year-old goes on the DL for the eighth time since his rookie season of 2002. Six of those DL stints are blister-related. A year ago, Beckett was on the disabled list three times, twice because of blister problems.

His latest bout with blisters isn't believed to be as severe as it was last year, but it still will require two to three weeks to heal and develop a callous.

The Marlins' Opening Day starter the past three seasons, Beckett is 7-5 with a 3.35 ERA. The hard-throwing Texan has made 14 starts and has 81 strikeouts in 88 2/3 innings.

Bump, who was optioned to Albuquerque recently, was with the Marlins when the season started. The reliever, who is available to spot start, was 0-3 in with a 3.51 ERA in 21 games.
