Marlins at the plate: Held hitless through five innings, Alex Sanchez lined a double down the right-field line to open the sixth off Chris Lambert. The double came on Lambert's first pitch. Dan Uggla's sacrifice fly to deep left produced the run. The Marlins were also limited to one hit in a loss to the Orioles at Fort Lauderdale on Friday. Brett Carroll had an RBI single, and Jason Stokes lifted a sacrifice fly in a two-run ninth inning.

Cardinals at the plate: Albert Pujols had two singles, including an RBI liner to right in the fourth. And in the second, Skip Schumaker singled as part of a two-run inning. Scott Spiezio walked and scored in the frame, and Schumaker raced home on Brendan Ryan's 6-4-3 double play. In a three-run fourth, Chris Duncan and Pujols had RBI singles, and Scott Rolen delivered a run-scoring double. John Rodriguez delivered a run-scoring pinch-hit single in the sixth. Ryan Ludwick had a pinch-hit RBI single, and Ryan added a run-scoring single in a six-run eighth.

Marlins on the mound: Scott Olsen experienced control problems in the second inning, walking three. Olsen gave up two runs in the second, with one coming on a wild pitch. In 2 2/3 innings, the lefty gave up two runs on three hits with three walks and a strikeout. He threw 46 pitches, with 25 strikes. Prospect Chris Volstad gave up three runs -- one earned -- in the fourth inning.

Cardinals on the mound: Anthony Reyes worked out of first-inning trouble, stranding Hanley Ramirez on third by retiring Miguel Cabrera on a grounder to short before Josh Willingham popped out. Reyes gave up no runs or hits in two scoreless innings. He walked two. Brad Thompson tossed perfect innings, striking out one.

Grapefruit League records: Marlins 1-4; Cardinals 3-2.
