ORIOLES 3, MARLINS 0
Fort Lauderdale, Fla.
Friday, March 2

Marlins at the plate: Florida went hitless for the first six innings. Cody Ross broke up the no-hitter with a single to right field in the seventh. Three players who haven't had success against southpaws -- Alfredo Amezaga, Mike Jacobs and Jeremy Hermida -- got a look against Erik Bedard, one of the American League's toughest lefties.

Orioles at the plate: Baltimore catcher Ramon Hernandez drove in the game's first run with a double that one-hopped the left-field wall in the second inning. Aubrey Huff had two opposite-field singles and scored a run. Melvin Mora drove home the game's second run with a sacrifice fly to center field in the fifth, and Jay Payton singled home the third run in the sixth.

Marlins on the mound: Dontrelle Willis worked two innings, allowing two hits and one earned run. Tossing 34 pitches, with 18 strikes, Willis' velocity ranged between 86-92 mph. He showed excellent arm strength, decent command and a winning personality. Jose Garcia, one of the young candidates for the fifth starter's slot, pitched two scoreless innings and allowed two hits.

Orioles on the mound: Bedard was nearly perfect, throwing 16 of his 20 pitches for strikes and retiring all six batters he faced. Rob Bell threw two hitless innings and closer Chris Ray threw a perfect sixth.

Grapefruit League records: Marlins 1-1; Orioles 1-1.

Up next: The Orioles travel to Viera on Saturday to take on the Nationals at 1:05 p.m. ET, matching up Daniel Cabrera against Washington's John Patterson. The Marlins return home to Jupiter for a 1:05 p.m. game against the Cardinals, pitting Anibal Sanchez against Kip Wells.
