Randomly Random Trade Scenarios

Rate this Entry
We enjoy trade rumors, we love exploring hypothetical trades, and we urge our favorite teams with all our might to pursue certain players. As it turns, out, these things rarely end up happening. But it never stops us from pretending...

Seattle: SS Jose Reyes
Safeco tends to be unfriendly for power, but Reyes' skill set is not based on power. It's speed, energy, and the flare for the dramatic. Reyes would be a constant spark in the lineup regardless of where you batted him and now that Dustin Ackley is tasting the big leagues, would it not be special to have years of Reyes-Ackley up the middle? Reyes could shake life into the bats of Figgins and Smoke. We know they can pitch. And we know they can field. Reyes doesn't take either of those away, and only adds to a soft lineup.

Colorado: 3B Mark Reynolds
Colorado has gone through about a dozen third basemen since Garret Atkins was taking advantage of the thin air. Reynolds has just crossed the .200 barrier for average, but he's also found his groove. He is what he is, a lot of power, a lot lot lot lot of strike outs, a good bit of walks, and a guy who can steal bases. He's a weird guy for sure, but the thin air could enhance his thunder two-fold.

L.A. Angels: CF BJ Upton
Upton is one of the greatest underachievers in the last couple of decades. All the potential in the world, and he never taps into it. For one, a change a scenery is worth a shot. And then why not let a manager who tends to get a lot out of nothing, work with him? Even more so, it wouldn't hurt him to learn a few things from Hunter and Abreu. Upton is a spark plug on the bases, and that's typically a perfect player for the Angels' lineup.

Atlanta: OF Hunter Pence
The new face of the lowly Houston Astros is unlikely to be traded, despite a few sprinkles of rumors here and there. It wouldn't make much since, unless they managed to get a real package of talent, especially a future impact talent. Atlanta has a good farm, and one that has many arms developing. The braves have had their entire outfield on the DL at one point and despite Hinske playing well, let's face it, Pence hits for a good average, has power, and might steal a base or two. McLouth doesn't cut it anymore and one day Prado will have to go back to the infield.

Texas: MR Sean Marshall
It's farrrrr more likely that Kerry Wood would go before Marshall. But this not a conventional blog. Marshall has been fantastic ever since he was converted to a reliever, being almost as electric as Marmol with fewer headaches involved. He could be a future closer one day. Texas has had to go through various injuries and shuffle their pen around. There's still talk that Perez will be placed in the rotation next season. Why not get an early head start on the heir apparent.

Reyes in Seattle would be interesting. His speed would help. But that was what FIGGINS was supposed to do. How do I know if Reyes has the same problem here.

Figgins was a guy coming off an All Star year in which he walked at an unprecedented rate. He also played in a much better lineup in LA. Figgins speed is still there but the guy never had a true position while Reyes is one of the best SS in the game. Reyes could knock Ichiro to the #2 spot which would be a good thing. Riggins was just a mistake, Reyes would be the redemption but the M's would have to give up a chunk of the future to get him.

I hope the Rockies get Reynolds, I really do

I don't really see a fit for Upton in LAA. Washington and Atlanta maybe but the Angels have Bourjos who has nearly identical numbers this season.

Pence I don't see moving as you said.

Marshall I don't see moving and Wood definitely isn't moving.
