As the Miami Lorialins turn...

Ah, so you did miss out on that Albert Pujols guy. And couldn't sign CJ Wilson either. It's okay though. There's still plenty of fish left in the sea. Oh, see what I did there?

The signing of Mark Buerhle was more important than you realize. If Josh Johnson can get and stay healthy, you have a quality trio in the rotation (Johnson-Sanchez-Buerhle), which begs the question. Instead of maybe trying to spend big on Prince Fielder, perhaps Miami should pursue Yu Darvish? As well as quality veterans such as Roy Oswalt or Edwin Jackson, and/or perhaps inquire about Wandy Rodriguez. The point is, don't stop building the rotation. You're not winning with Chris Volstad and Clay Hensley topping off the staff. The offense, as is, is good enough and capable of being even better having so many young players that haven't reached their potential or need to be more consistent (I'm looking at you Hanley, LoMo, Stanton, Coghlan, etc). And if you buy into the critics and move Morrison to 1B, you have a very solid under 30 first baseman in Gaby Sanchez to dangle for other needs.

Target the pitching. All you have to do is look up, and see the rotation of the Phillies. And the Braves. And Washington has that Strasburg fellow and that other guy named Zimmerman. It's a division with pitching. Clay Hensley need not apply.

I agree you target the pitching and I would go after Edwin Jackson. Why? Because he has played under Ozzie Guillen. As we all know, Guillen can be kind of a dick. Signing Jackson would give the Marlins two players (Buehrle being the other) that have played under Guillen and help guide the clubhouse. They can give other players perspective on just what Guillen is doing or saying. After getting Jackson, I would target the Cuban defector Yoenis Cespedes. He would be quite the draw for the Latin community but not for the $60 million he's asking for. I'm sure the Marlins could talk him down. Marlins need a CFer at some point.
