Matt Clement tossed four scoreless innings and struck out three Monday against the Dodgers.
It was the first official outing for Clement, who pitched against Northeastern on March 3 and worked in a minor league game week. He hasn't had any trouble recovering from October knee surgery.
Cy Carpenter still hasn't given up a run this spring. He allowed just two hits in four innings against the Braves to win on Monday.
Carpenter has surrendered six hits and struck out 10 in 11 scoreless innings.
Mike Sweeney will miss time due to a bone bruise on the left ankle joint that he apparently had when he reported to camp.
"It's probably going to keep him out a week," manager Buddy Bell said Sunday. "It's been sore. He could've probably played, but they're going to put him in a boot." It's a good thing Sweeney will be primarily a DH this year. Even that, though, might not allow him 500 at-bats
Just a few updates here. Sweeney being hurt is no shock, Carpenter looks as though he wants to repeat and its good to see Clement get off to a good start.

Ryan Sweeney is tearing up the Cactus league again. He may be in Chicago as early as mid 2006, but he'll have to show that his performance this spring hasn't been a fluke.

I bet the Phillies are glad they dealt Thome so they can give Howard the full time job.

    Couple of things to note:

-Gavin Floyd is somehow 3-0 with a 2.30 ERA this spring. Fluke maybe, who knows.

-Raul Ibanez has 4 hr this spring

    -Adrian Beltre homered again today

-Man-Ram and D-Ort both homered today

Look for the Reds to trade for Ted Lilly before Opening Day.
