No, I'm going to be thinking "Boy, I struck out twice in this game, I need to work on that because I clearly can not be taking two at-bats away from my team in a 9 inning game, because that's a 7% loss of opportunity."

But I guess I'm not most MLB players.

    That's a sim-league way of thinking.

I guess sim league thinking is the best way of thinking, then.

Actually, I'll agree that Pujols should win. He was solid ... (and clutch!)

And if anything, it's also a sort of lifetime achievement award for those Bonds years.

    Whatever!

I'd be arguing for Lee more than Pujols, though either of them would be a much much much much much.... ....much better choice than Andruw.

Sorry to break up the feud, but...

How many of these ended up stealing votes from their own teammates? Can you believe some baffoons actually had Giambi getting votes? You can make some type of case for each of these guys but Giambi? Where's Palmeiro's votes then?

The one reason Lee wont win it is the team he was on, while Pujols and Andruw were on teams in the playoffs making headlines with their teams Lee was relegated mostly to box scores and some articles middle pages. The Cubs were out of it most of the season with short spurts. The only reason why Chicago finished 4th in the division was Cincinnati's pitching staff was so awful and Pujols' stats are at least close to comparable for a 1st place team.

"Oh, don't mind me, I'm rebuilding now" then you win at least 80 games

Oh ya, and let me just add, McKain, that as far as pitching goes, the whole reason we have a special category of pitchers known as "closers" is because of clutch performance in itself. The majority of the time, closers pitch in clutch situations, with the game (and likely their job) on the line. That is why not everyone can succeed as a closer (for example LaTroy Hawkins, who was a very good setup man, but when he got put in the much more pressure-packed closer role, he crapped his pants.)

No... if you would say a pressure situation I may agree... but clutch?? Nope... The whole game is a clutch situation, which inherently means there is no true clutch situation compared to others... can there be more pressure situations during a game?? Yep.... but a pitcher protecting the lead at any time during the game is the same... a batter providing a run is the same in inning 2 as it is in inning 8... pressure is not time specific to an inning such as the 9th

Giambi got that team going. I have said many times that I thought Giambi was the real MVP of that team.
