Padres Peavy out for remainder of the season

    http://sports.espn.go.com/mlb/playof...ory?id=2181056

ST. LOUIS -- Jake Peavy is out for the season after fracturing his eighth right rib in Tuesday's Division Series opener against St. Louis.

Initial X-rays were negative, but the Padres sent Peavy to Barnes Jewish Hospital in St. Louis for an MRI, which revealed the fractured rib. A team spokesman said Peavy might have also broken his ninth rib, and that additional tests were being done.

Padres manager Bruce Bochy said the team didn't know when Peavy suffered the injury.

St. Louis won Game 1 at home 8-5.

The Padres had planned to have Peavy throw Game 4 of the series Sunday at Petco Park. Adam Eaton is likely to fill that spot if San Diego forces a fourth game.
This hurts if they want to go any further

Despite his obvious poor performance today, that hurts bigtime if there was even a small chance for them to overtake the mighty Cardinals. Talk about a killing of hope for Padres fans.

Wow, that's brutal. They're done unless they start hitting the crap out of the ball real quick.

perhaps the rib is to blame for the poor performance as it is unknown when he injured it

It will be interesting to see how Mulder performs for the Cardinals. I haven't paid attention to him at all this year but in Oakland he always seemed to be broken down in the playoffs.
