    Rookie of the Year discussion

    Willy Tavares
Brings a spark to the top of Houston's batting order. Since they have very little offense, he's been even more important by getting on base and stealing. He might not even be making any waves had Lance Berkman not been hurt. His advantage at this point might be the # of at bats. You also can't deny his value to a weak offense.

    Jeff Francoeur
While you may say he's not been there the whole season, what you can't argue is how important he has been for the braves stretch run. His advantage over Tavares is his five tool talent. He also has 12 homeruns in under 200 AB's. If he had more games under his belt, we'd be talking about how he could join Andruw Jones in the Gold Glove ceremonies.

Francoeur has the best arm for any Brave..hell, he's up there with Vlad and Ichiro!

Hands down it's Tavares. He has provided so much for this Astros team and been a big part of this team's hunt for the WC. 33 Steals and a .292 average in 133 games tell the stroy. Plus he has play a very good CF for the Stros in a pretty tricky CF.

I'm not going to argue, it's probably Taveras. However, Francoeur is a beast and everyone knows it.

So very true. If Francoeur had been playing all year, it would be a different story.

Agreed. Taveras hasn't been to shabby himself: good average, decent range in Minute Maid, mediocre arm, good steals. I'm sure the Yanks could use a guy like him. Not that they have a chance in hell to get him.

There wouldn't even be a race if Barmes didn't go down. Duke would also draw much attention if he didn't recently get hurt.

I can't think of AL candidates besides Street and Cano. That seems to be an uneventful race if those are the top candidates.

Street has done extremely well. Cano is an error making machine. Iguchi is a rookie. Its between Street or Iguchi.

Blanton and Chacin have each won Rookie of the Month twice in the AL...

Blanton, Chacin, and Street are all good candidates in the AL. Francouer and Duke at the two best NL candidates, even in limited time. The best AL hitter is Jonny Gomes.

Taveras has a bad OPS too, .668. He has value, but he's not that good

Then out of fairness to the others you will be Slagathor.

He's played all year and that's got to count for something as the award is called Rookie of the YEAR...not half year.

You expect leadoff hitters to have .900 OPS? You should take a look at your S3SL leadoff hitter's slugging percentage for an indication.

Oooh, Gustavo Chacin's had a solid ERA most of the year. He could be a good pick.

His OBP is average at best. Maybe worse than average.
