Thumbs Up Shohei Otani to Play in MLB Next Season

“It’s really happening,” one GM said, half-mocking, half-giddy at the prospect of the 23-year-old spicing up the free-agent market this winter. And fascinating as his courtship would be in normal circumstances, the prospect of the best player available signing one of the most piddling contracts makes it unlike any free agency sports has seen: One where it literally isn’t about the money.

This whole situation really is fascinating and I am really enjoying following it. The Yankees seem like they have a real shot at this guy and I would be thrilled if they were able to get him. I just really hope he doesn't come over here and flame out.

Shohei Ohtani asks MLB teams to make their best (non-financial) pitch.

Ohtani has arrived in LAX. That's right, Los Angeles International Airport. Not fucking Seattle International Airport, Chicago International Airport, or New York International Airport.

I can see it now, the Dodgers will trade for Stanton and land Otani and Mofo will find a way to spin it like his life as a Dodgers fan sucks because of it.

Eh, Dodgers losing the 2017 World Series is probably the closest I'll ever get in my lifetime. I would be okay just seeing Stanton hit the ball out of Dodger Stadium for a season or two when he's not in and out of the DL every couple weeks with a hammy problem like Furcal, Manny, Hanley, Kemp, Puig, etc etc.

So, Otani wants to play not for a big market and prefers to be isolated as the only Japanese player on the team. At this point, I'm just hoping this twat makes the worst move possible and chooses Texas or some other shit.

I just hope Othani makes a decision soon so I can either be happy the Padres actually landed someone of note or roll my eyes at the usual turn of events and move on.

Mariners are going balls out for Otani. They traded for Dee Gordon and his contract and are moving him to center field just so they can get the Marlins to kick in $1M for Otani's bonus.
