But you don't get it. The Black Socks ruined a World Series through an extensive conspiracy that involved gambling and getting practically the entire team on board, therefore gambling by any individual on the game is the absolute worst sin in the world.

I have somewhat followed this over the years and didn't realized when he finally broke down and admitted to the gambling that he meant ONLY as a manager, but according to this article he has continued to claim not to as a player. I mean, didn't we kind of already know he must have bet as a player? I figured he probably started while playing, most addictions don't just magically start at middle age. I don't think this is the bombshell surprise they want to make it.


I see both sides of this, Rose is an ass, but perhaps the gambling piety is outdated. The rule had been there for decades before he played yet he did it anyway, but if it is considered an addiction, could he help himself? There is a part of me that wonders the same thing about PED's, once the player tries it, does it become kind of an addiction, physically or psychologically, maybe both? Once caught though it seems many instead of actually giving it up, they sneak, connive and use all their resources to continue use but keep it hidden. Perhaps one punishment should not fit all, but be taken case by case. Yet, I understand the frustration with someone who continues to deny things when the "evidence" appears to show a different story. That's what irritates me about ARod, the lengths he went to in covering up. The problem is though that in many cases even when someone admits to things right away they are still vilified and ridiculed for the offense instead of being applauded for facing the music. Their dammed either way.

Didn't I read a couple months ago that Rose was going to be invited to participate in the All-Star activities this season or they were thinking of letting him come? I guess that's off.


On one hand you don't want to reward lying and violations of rules, but on the other hand some of his records might never be broken and as far as anyone knows he didn't cheat to get them. He actually did the opposite of what the "Black Sox" did, he bet on his team to win and just how do you guarantee a win? Now, if someone could prove he paid off opposing players to tank in order to give his team an edge then tar and feather him.

Perhaps a pardon, a special separate recognition in the HOF, a secret off season vote by major league players on whether he should be allowed in or the ban continued?
