Matt Bush fucks up again!

Former San Diego Padres No. 1 pick Matt Bush was arrested Thursday after being involved in an accident with a 72-year old motorcyclist, the Florida Highway Patrol said.

The Tampa Bay Rays minor leaguer has been charged with fleeing the scene of an accident with serious injuries, driving with a suspended license, DUI with serious injuries and DUI with property damage.

Bush, according to the Highway Patrol, hit a motorcyclist from behind at about 5 p.m. on U.S. 41 in Charlotte County. Bush then drove off, the agency's report said.

"Literally, the tire on the SUV ran over the driver's head," a witness told WBBH-TV in Fort Myers. "Without the helmet, the gentleman would have been dead instantly."

Bush, the first pick in the 2004 draft by San Diego as a shortstop, has had problems from the start of his career. He got a $3.15 million signing bonus but was suspended that summer after getting in a fight outside an Arizona bar.

He also was involved in another drinking-related incident before the Padres dealt him to the Toronto Blue Jays in 2009.

The Rays signed him to a free-agent deal before the 2010 season.

Looks like Bush's career is now over. He should be spending a lot time in prison.

I would've thought that a "smart" organization like the Rays would avoid taking risks on players temperamentally, and legally, unsuited for professional ball.

The 72-year-old motorcyclist whom Matt Bush struck with an SUV on Thursday is "completely unresponsive."
If the man dies, Bush will face a prison sentence of at least two years. The former first overall draft pick is currently in the Charlotte County jail in Florida with a bail of $1.015 million. He's facing charges of DUI, hit-and-run and property damage, but that list is likely to grow. The Rays are expected to release him soon from their 40-man roster.

Why does god waste talent on this person, when you get guys working their asses off in the minors, are real nice guys, yet never get to the top because, for all their hustle, they dont have the talent. Then you get guys like this, all the talent needed, yet havent got a brain cell.

Matt Bush was released from Hamilton Correctional Institution in Jasper, Fla, on Friday. He finished his work release and will not be on probation going forward. Current plan is to return home near his family. No word on if he will even think about a comeback.


As of a 2014 report the victim Tony Tufano was managing well in his rehabilitation but will likely have effects for the rest of is life, he was in his early 70's at the time he was hit. He harbored no vengeful attitude towards Bush, even asking for leniency in sentencing and the hope that Bush would turn his life around.

There was a lawsuit filed against Bush and Brandon Guyer who loaned Bush his truck though vehemently asserted he had no prior knowledge that Bush didn't have a license, just helping out a teammate. No real details about the settlement except that it was done in May 13th for about $400, 000.
