The 2005 Home Run derby was the greatest derby I've seen in 5 or 6 years. It wasn't bad at all. Big Papi beat Miguel Tejada's record, and so did Bobby Abreau for Home Runs in one round.

It was the 1st HR Derby i saw the whole thing too since Pujols and Anderson went back and forth in the final.. This Format is much better than the old format and i think they should stick with it. But for god sakes get better people....Im still mad at Ichiro not entering the HR derby if Pudge entered he could have.

the only reason to watch the HR Derby despite Ortiz and Abreu was to watch the kids in the outfield fight over balls and completely miss can of corn pop ups. The World Cup format was probably the dumbest thing i've ever heard of. If i had to choose 8 guys to be in a HR derby, Tejada, Ortiz, Pujols are there for sure. It wouldnt be too hard to pick 5 other guys although im sure anyone would have said that Teixeira, Lee Jones and Abreu should have been there. No one wanted to see Jason Bay and although Pudge did impress, no one wants to see Pudge in a HR Derby.

World Cup > Wannabe Tourney Format.....i dont like the fact you hit 17 HRs and lose 11-10 in the 2nd round while some one else makes the finals by winning 5-4. And for fairness to Jason Bay, as i said in the HR Derby Thread, picture this: You are in your 1st all-star game, your 2 blocks away from Tigers Stadium, the site where Reggie Jackson, Roberto Clemente, Hank Aaron and other HOFs all played in the same all-star game. Its your 1st HR Derby, your in front of about 40,000 people, you know that about couple of million to be safe is watching on TV. Youve just watched Bobby Abreu almost double the single round record (he shattered it by 9). Now you have to follow that, you dont have your regular BP pitcher. Now about no one wanting to see Jason Bay.....Hes a young guy and hes better than Choi for gods sakes, but Matsui and Ichiro didnt want to enter.

I was thinking the same thing, why wasn't Matt Stairs repping Canada?

Nash would have used his helmet to hit a HR over the wall like he used his head to set up Amare.
