Sad [update] Bob Feller passes away.

Rapid Robert has been placed in hospice care. He was diagnosed with leukemia in August and recently hospitalized with pneumonia. Here is a story: Tribe legend Feller enters hospice care | MLB.com: News
I've had the pleasure of meeting and talking with this guy. You never know what he'll say. We were talking about hitters and he brought up a bat that he made when he was a kid. It was oak and weighed about 65 ounces, or so he said. He told me that Larry Doby could have used it against major-league pitchers.
I wish him nothing but the best, as he is, as the book by John Sickles says, "The Ace of the Greatest Generation"

He is one of the greats. I hope his transaction to the biggest club is peaceful.

    RIP Bob

He was just on some of those baseball retrospects in the last few years, looking quite healthy and sharp for someone his age. He also still made appearances for the Tribe faithful. Hopefully the media will give him proper due as he really was among that old guard that is all but gone.

I will miss his wit and wisdom. His museum is close to my home and I visit it frequently. He made regular appearances there, up until last summer. He was a great guy.
    Rest in peace, Bob.

I met Bob Feller, along with a few other greats, when I was a kid.

Him, Dave Kingman, Jim Palmer, and a few others who I don't remember offhand led a two day baseball camp where all of us got to meet them, field practice, and get autographs.

    It was pretty cool.

    RIP Bob Feller

Bob Feller, Dave Kingman and Jim Palmer? Can you find which one doesn't belong?

Rapid Robert from all accounts was a beast and I would have loved to watch this man throw live in person. He is of the true greats of this game who sacrificed baseball to serve our country.

I'm pretty sure Rod Carew was there as well, but my memory is a bit hazy.

I was 10 or 11 at the time.

Love the guys that gave up a spot in the majors, to fight overseas.

It really is a concept that is hard for me to wrap my mind around that players of his caliber made that kind of sacrifice. Of course their pay was very different than what players receive today, but it is still amazing nonetheless.

I asked Bob about that very thing once and he said that there was never a question in his mind that he made the right decision.

I thought it was refreshing to read Feller say, "I didn't care about losing my baseball career."
