Baseball Slant BS Awards: Biggest Surprise of 2010

This award is only focusing on the positive here. If someone wants to do an award on the most disappointing, go right ahead but these are the men who surprised us by having good seasons unexpectedly.

Andres Torres- where the **** did he come from?
Brett Myers- Did you really expect this man to throw quality start after quality start for the Astros?
Livan Hernandez- Dude hasn't had an ERA below 4 since '05
R.A. Dickey- Probably the best minor league signing of the year
Jim Thome- Dude went from pinch hitter for the Dodgers to rake it up for the Twins in limited action
Pat Burrell- Did nothing for the Rays and has been a god for the Giants
Matt Capps- 5.80 ERA to a 2.50 ERA with 42 saves

If you've voted other, please explain

R.A. Dickey is the biggest surprise in my book because unlike the rest of the list, he was a scrub in and out of the big leagues for the past 9 years, and he's getting the job done with just one tool - the knuckleball.

The only strikes I expected from Brett Myers were against his wife.

I think Thome isn't so much a surprise, I mean LA traded for him just to be a pinch hitter, a waste by them. The man still has good plate discipline and that mighty swing. He just was relegated to Mark Sweeney duty with the Dodgers.

I'm torn. Torres or Dickey. I think I'm going Torres cause he helped me in fantasy until September.

I knew i would forget one. Thank god for the Other option. Still think Torres is more of a surprise than even Bautista.

You do realize Thome himself admitted that he couldn't play first base anymore because of the condition of his back, don't you? It's not the Dodgers' fault the National League doesn't use the DH. If you're arguing that they should have traded for someone else who was healthy enough to play some defense, that's for another conversation.

Jim Thome-just when you think this guy is done he puts up some serious numbers for the Twins who really needed a big bat in the middle of there lineup.

To their credit, you can't really blame them for dumping them with the way they were playing.

There's a reason they're both on a "biggest surprise" poll.

I went with RA Dickey. Who saw him being a competent starter on any team?

Capps was still young, why dump a young guy coming off one bad season, when his first 3 were good?

That's their own fault for acquiring an expensive one at bat guy.
