MLB Do MLB waiver claimants go back to the end of the line?

Otherwise, why don't we see high priority teams like the Pirates block every big name player who hits the wire from slipping to a contending team?

Edit: This is assuming the team who puts the player on waivers isn't giving him away for salary relief.

Because then teams could just dump salary on them when they can't afford it.

I meant in cases like Adam Dunn's where the Nats weren't planning to simply dump his salary.

Nats weren't trying to just dump Dunn though. They wanted a solid return for him

That's the point. The Pirates could have blocked other teams from getting Dunn without worrying about the possibility of the Nats outright dumping his salary on them.

They could have but what would have been the point? I'm not sure I get what you are asking.

Because if they cared they wouldn't want to see the Cards or Reds get him.

Why would they care if the Reds or Cards got him for a month? Spend money they don't need to just to be dicks?

I think it would be funny if they blocked moves like that just to be dicks. I mean, they really have nothing to lose. They just throw a kink into a contender's plan. And if they get stuck with that player, well, God forbid they wind up with talent for once.

That would be funny. In the case of Dunn, he wasn't going to the Reds (Jocketty was the one who dealt him) or the Cards (doesn't fit the Cardinals mold). He woulda ended up with the White Sox.

They would end up spending money they dont need to for a month of service. Not exactly smart
