So, you keep saying but again my statements weren’t about Votto or any one specific player.

I just like to comment on the hilarity that ensues every year.
I commented on the hilarity of the snub whining every year from those that KNOW that snubbing is going to take place every year. Perhaps that should be the next blackboard assignment.

Since I don't have a crystal ball I can't determine if he's going to have a sudden plummet in production post-ASG, nor can I determine if anyone's going to have a sudden surge.

The All Star Game is mid-season so obviously we only have first-half performances to go on.

Quit beating around the bush with technicalities. Joey Votto is in or near the top 5 in the league in just about every offensive category and it's laughable to say he doesn't belong in the ASG and the fact that he has to rely on the "final vote" is a joke.

Right. But making the All Star Game more than just a meaningless exhibition game makes it become more than just about giving the fans a good show. (Which is what the portion of your post that response replied to pretty much says)

You can't argue that it shouldn't matter it the players having the best (first half) of the season are in because it's about giving the fans a good show when the outcome of the game impacts the World Series.

Now the league has to win.

That doesn't negate my point in using an example.

I realize it's convenient for your argument to keep the subject matter vague by avoiding specifics but that doesn't negate the facts.

Joey Votto would be on the vast majority, if not all lists which give legitimate reason to complain about his "snub".

That was a statement of my opinion on your opinion.

Where in either of those quotes does it say you're not allowed to post?

I suppose we should all just turn our computers off since we're being dumb by commenting on our opinions?

But, I digress, you laugh at people posting their opinions on sports in a sports forum, I'll laugh at stupid All Star selections and snubs.

Except that the All -Star game isn’t and never has been based on solely that premise.

Personally, that is not my preference.

Read a little slower…I NEVER said anything about him one way or the other.

A good show is subjective, I personally have always thought it was a good show even before the “it counts” mentality, even through the years of no “legitimate” Rays rep because we just plain sucked. Perhaps that’s because I understand the idea of it, a mid season showcase for popular stars, newer stars and “possibly” future stars, not JUST stat leaders the months leading up to the game.

What fact, the one that I never mentioned him? The only argument is you throwing Votto at me when I never said anything about him.

It doesn’t, didn’t say you said that, didn’t take it that way.

Re: 2010 All Star Game rosters

    Jered Weaver replaces CC Sabathia.
Mariano Rivera will skip the game to rest.
NL hasn't picked a DH yet, so there's still another chance for Joey Votto, if for some reason he doesn't win the fan vote.
Jason Heyward might actually play now.

Hong Chih Kuo of the Dodgers replaces injured Jason Heyward on the NL All-Star team. The National League really doesn't want to win this thing, do they?

They do if they want to get a couple of AL lefty sluggers out. That said, I prefer that he sit out because I don't want to watch him blow out his elbow over an exhibition game.

Lefties are 0-30 against Kuo. Not bad at all.

Re: 2010 All Star Game rosters

Weaver replaced Cahill and Bailey replaced Weaver. Verlander replaced Sabathia. So that makes 255 players named to the ASG so far, right? I think this may be the longest opening festivities ever.
