Cubs Greg Maddux becomes assistant GM of Cubs.

Greg Maddux joins Cubs front office - MLB - Yahoo! Sports

CHICAGO (AP)—Pitching great Greg Maddux(notes) has rejoined the Chicago Cubs as an assistant to general manager Jim Hendry.

The 355-game winner, who started his major league career with the Cubs in 1986 and rejoined them from 2004-06, retired as a player after the 2008 season.

“I’m just going to do what I can to learn how both sides of the game work this year and then kind of make a decision after that,” Maddux said when asked if his new job would be a stepping stone to other baseball opportunities.
Maybe he can get Hendry to fix the pitching staff or get some pitchers. Really this could potentially be a good hire given his baseball IQ.

    TSSL: Seattle Mariners 2006-2029, Pittsburgh Pirates 2030-present (209-277, 5 division titles w/SEA, 1 championship w/SEA)

I love the signing. I love Maddux, and am very happy to have him back in the organization.

"Maddux’ responsibilities will include assisting the coaching staffs at major league and minor league spring training, evaluating talent and developing minor league players."

Sounds good to me. Out pitching prospects will get to learn a lot from him. One of the best in his time.

I guess Maddux must have taken a look at the list of San Diego's pitchers and pondered, "Kevin Correia? Tim Stauffer? Clayton Richard? Aaron Poreda? Wade LeBlanc? Sean Gallagher? Man, f*** this shit. I ain't coming back."

Great move for the Cubs. Having someone like Maddux part of your team's think tank for young arm development has to pay dividends eventually.

McGwire with the Cards and now Maddux back to the Cubs.

I really pictured him being a coach. Maddux as the coach, Smoltz as GM, and Glavine as the president. It could work.

    Yeah, all for Atlanta.
