Thread: Derby Format Changed?

    Derby Format Changed?

    http://news.yahoo.com/news?tmpl=stor...me_run_derby_1

Instead of having four players from each league, the commissioner's office said Friday it will have eight players represent their native countries at the July 11 event. Major league baseball plans to formally launch plans that day for its first World Baseball Classic, a 16-team event during spring training next year.

    Stupid, Stupid, Stupid.

Way to force the MLB to choose between Ortiz, Ramirez, Pujols, and Tejada. (And yes, I stole this completely from another board I go to).

Then out of fairness to the others you will be Slagathor.

My mother would be a better choice than Tino Martinez. I'll be honest... give me Carl Crawford to be the USA rep.

I'm laying bets that Ichiro wins anyway.

Everytime I have watched the advertisements on ESPN for the new Derby, I have yet to see them throw out a name to rep. USA. I've seen Canada, DR, Panama, and I am guessing Curacao was for Andruw Jones, but they haven't even mentioned a candidate for the U.S. I find that odd, and hard to believe if there were no reps for the U.S.

My money is that A-Rod will represent the U.S. (he's from the states, right?).

He was born in New York so that solidifies him as an American.

Either the All-Star game has been dreadful ever since the 2002 fiasco or this new system may actually work.
