Dodgers Is Ned Colletti the best GM in baseball?

    Facts:

    - The Dodgers have the best record in baseball at 18-8.

    - The Dodgers have a talented roster which includes a future Hall of Famer (Manny Ramirez), burgeoning young superstars (Matt Kemp, James Loney, Chad Billingsley), and solid veterans (Rafael Furcal, Orlando Hudson, Randy Wolf).

Despite such failed acquisitions such as Jason Schmidt, Andruw Jones and Juan Pierre, some credit has to be given to Ned Colletti for assembling the team that he did.

He certainly has made a winning environment there in LA. That goes a long way in getting a FA or two.

And so what if Jones, Pierre, and Schmidt didn't really work out as well as they could have. There was some use for those moves, even after they showed that they were busts.

No, he's not. In fact, the only non-free agency eligible player he's responsible for is Andre Ethier.

But in the end, who gives a damn. Wins and losses are all that matter. I like the moves that DePodesta made, but a 71-91 record is what it is.

At 26 games I think we can safely say he's the greatest anything ever.

A big fat NO should sum this up.

One thing is for sure, it's definitely NOT David Glass. The Royal's payroll is less than the RETRIBUTION MONEY THEY RECEIVE AT THE END OF EACH SEASON. Thanks for your sincere attempt to win games, Mr. Glass.

It's hard for David Glass to be the best GM when he's not even a GM.

Re: Is Ned Colletti the best GM in baseball?

Tampa Bay's Andrew Friedman ranks as game's best general manager - Tim Marchman - SI.com

NedCo is 27th out of 30. Meanwhile other GM's who dished out equally if not more embarrassing deals to Mike Hampton (and Denny Neagle), Gary Matthews Jr., Milton Bradley, are ranked much higher. Also ranked higher include the Minnesota Twins GM who traded Johan Santana for Carlos Gomez, and San Diego's Jed Hoyer, who hasn't made a major move to be considered in these rankings. LOL, even Omar Minaya, who once tried to trade Cliff Floyd for 50-year old Rolando Arrojo, is #26.

    Absurd.

Re: Is Ned Colletti the best GM in baseball?

    Sigh...

I'm guessing thanks to Brian Sabean winning the World Series, Omar Minaya no longer the GM of the Mets, and most of all, his own consistent stupidity, Ned fucking Colletti is now 30th of 30. The worst GM in baseball. The butt of jokes to Hardball Times, Baseball Think Factory, American Mensa, etc. The very reason why I want to strangle the fuck out of every wiseass who posts snarky comments under Dodgers Rumors on MLBTR.

P.S. That columnist is a moron, too. Not to be anal about this as well, but how do you screw up a numbered list like this:

    26.
    26.
    27.
    29.

No way, Dayton Moore is still the worst GM but thankfully he lets other build the farm system.

Between Colletti and Dayton Moore, Moore's résumé in player scouting and development at least qualifies him to be a GM.

Again, Moore is not the genius behind the scouting and player development but he did hire the people who are so I guess that counts. Moore sure as hell can't make free agent signings worth a fuck.

Re: Is Ned Colletti the best GM in baseball?

Moore may or not be the brains behind KC's farm system, but he is trusted to hire the people who build the farm system because of his own background in scouting and player development, an area which Colletti has an empty entry on his résumé.
