    MLB awards question

I have a question regarding how a player gets thease awards:

CY Young: ????(my dad thinks it should be best ERA pitched){lol what do you think of that RDR/Padres fan, Peavy could have won it last year lol}.

MVP: Best player in AL/NL right?

Rolaids Relief Man: Best Closer, based on a point system for different types of saves.

    Tia.

Cy Young-Best overall pitcher (based on voting)

    MVP-Best player in AL/NL

Rolaids Relief Man of the Year-Best RP (not Closer necessarily).

Correction: MVP has come to mean the best player in baseball, but it's actually the player who is most valuable to the success of his team.

Rolaids Relief is the pitcher with the most saves. I am almost 100% sure of that, so it has to be a closer realistically.

It's not the most saves. It's the best RP, which is always a closer.

In Major League Baseball, the Rolaids Relief Man of the Year Award, first awarded in 1976, is a distinction given to the top relief pitcher in each league at the end of each season. Unlike other honors such as the Cy Young Award or Most Valuable Player Award, the Relief Man of the Year award is based objectively on statistical performance, rather than subjective opinion.

I was wrong...but it is a statistical formula which puts a massive value on saves.

An award that was started in 1976 in an effort to honor the top closer from each league and calculated by giving four points for a tough save (entering the game with the tying run on base), three points for a save, two points for a win, loss of two points for a loss, and a loss of two points for a blown save.

He doesn't have to be the best RP in baseball to get the award, he could just have the most saves.

MVP should be the most valuable player on a winning team but Arod and a few others got it so who knows. Arod winning it on a last place team was a disgrace to baseball.

Maybe someone should have put up better numbers than ARod and there would have never been an issue with him getting the MVP. That's just a thought.

A player can be valuable to a losing team too...

I agree that MVP is a bad name for the award... because value is subjective.... I would rather see a player of the year... It is an individual award or accomplishment, so in my opinion, the team that they are on is irrelevant

Not necessarily. The success of the team is incorporated into the award.

It is incorporated into the award as it stands as MVP... rightly or wrongly.... I would rather see a player of the year award that is strictly on individual performance, as it should be an award for the individually best achieving player for the season

Hey what do you think of this idea I had for an award: best DH for AL and best pitcher for NL
