I always have thought that it was easier to hit HR's in PETCO than safeco, the dimensions might be bigger but the ball seems to travel farther, and the Padres offense is bad everywhere so we don't get a good indication from them

The Mariners offense isn't exactly murderer's row either...

    Congratulations.

You've made 3 declarations and you were wrong 3 times.

    - For starters, the dimensions at SafeCo are larger than the dimensions of PetCo

    - The dimensions at PetCo are not what makes it hard to hit HRs there. There are a handful of parks with bigger dimensions than PetCo. (including SafeCo)

It's the marine layer that seems to eat fly balls and cause them to just die there.

The ball doesn't travel farther, in fact it dies more often than not.

I wish I had a dollar for every time I saw a fly ball hit at PetCo and thought "That's a home run for sure" only to see it fall before the warning track.

    - The Padres offense in the first 4 years of PetCo was not bad everywhere. In fact, it's quite scary if you look at the home/away splits. (That's not to say they were murderer's row, but they weren't as horrible as their overall statistics made them look.)

They traded a very promising young OFer for a pitcher who melted down at the end of last year and was left off the postseason roster for the first round of the playoffs. Only reason he was added to the ALCS and WS roster was because of injuries and even then he barely got to pitch. When he did pitch, it was just in mop up duties. Jackson went 14-11 last year with a 4.42 ERA and 1.50 WHIP. Only reason Jackson did so well was because he had the best defense in the league behind him. Jackson has a career ERA of 5.15. Matt Joyce is coming off an impressive rookie campaign hitting 12 HRs, 33 RBI and posting a .831 OPS in just 242 ABs. Joyce is also a good defensive OFer and should start in RF for the Rays. Joyce will turn some heads this year. The Rays got an absolute steal in this trade while the Tigers got another mediocre pitcher.
Maybe it wasn't one of the worst trades but the Rays are now getting the better of it.

Looks like all but one of my five were correct. Farnsworth wasn't as bad as I thought it would be.
