So basically you'd be okay with players corking their bats, lathering their helmets and bats up with huge amounts of pine tar, pitchers throwing spit balls, teams videotaping other teams to steal their signs, etc. ... as long as you're entertained and as long as the Cubs win.

There needs to be a level playing field.

That's like saying "it aint murder if you don't get caught".

Cheating is cheating whether you get caught doing it or not.

It's not everyone though. There are 750+ players in MLB, I don't think any more than 100-150 are doing it. That would NOT be CLOSE to "practically everyone"

I think the big question is, why does his supply always run out in October?

Maybe Ahnold the president of California got this for him.

Anyways maybe ARod wasnt feeling "man enough" to handle NY media... One of the descriptor links led me to this description of Dihydrotestosterone Linked in the above link:

Everything Bonds has done shouldn't be in the record books. If you can't do it right than why count it? With AFraud, I am not surprised that he was taking anything.

So you are for going back through the annals of sports history and striking every player who used something for an edge and removing them? This would be the only "fair" way to deal with it if you are going to drop a heavy hand on guys like Bonds, ARod, etc by keeping them out of Cooperstown and out of baseball's rich history.

The terms and drugs/helpers change but the point remains the same, if you went through and knocked out everyone that took some sort of "enhancer" you might find you erase more history than saving and protecting. Inginuity is always racing for the "next big thing".

If you want to "document" such and such player failed X number of drug tests fine, but someone contributed to baseball's history. Look forward to try and educate rather than looking back while everything else zooms by.

Re: Alex Rodriguez tested positive for steroids in 03, per SI

Apparently this all came out via leak from the lab. I do think whoever was in charge there should be canned. Of course this is a big scoop but everyone, even people in the wrong like Rodriguez, should have their confidentiality protected until the proper people decide to release the information.

I wonder how this will impact Rodriguez's contract with the Yankees. I know his bonuses are tied to him moving up the homerun ladder and that two sources said there is nothing regarding steroids tied to the bonuses, but I wonder if the Yankees can get out of that. Would the Yankees want Rodriguez sitting number one, asterisk or not (which is another debate altogether)? Would they celebrate such an accomplishment? Of course this would be years from now when he would break it but I really wonder how a guy like George Steinbrenner would feel about having that tied to Yankee history forever.

Doesn't matter, George won't be alive much longer (yes, I'm cynical)
I did a lot of good things as a sim league GM.

Ah, give me something clever to say here.

Well, he is kind of viewed as the ultimate Yankee fan and obviously still wields power through influence even if he is ill.

But how do you feel about ARod breaking the record in pinstripes one day? That is kind of where I am headed. Would you or other Yankees fans want to trade him (a reach I know) before that day comes? I don't know if I would want that associated with my team's history, even if he is perhaps the greatest talent, without enhancers, to play the game in his generation or any generation.
